PERIMETRE NETS
Nets to be tested annually, by drop test or destruction test:
Drop testing:
- Typical steel nets to be tested by drop Test Load: 125 kg to reflect increased personnel weight standards).
- Drop Height: 1 metre above the safety net frame/assembly.
- Impact Area: Focused on a small, localized surface area to simulate the footprint or impact point of a person stepping, jumping, or falling onto the net.
- Standards: While UK CAP 437 outlines the general performance requirement for containment and safety, detailed testing and manufacturing criteria frequently cross-reference safety net specifications such as BS EN 1263-1 and BS EN 1263-2
Destruction test sending samples to laboratory:
Frictape-net test method of statement:
- Pre-Attached Tapes: Each perimeter net comes with 20 pre-attached test tapes.
- Annual Sampling: Operators send to laboratory one test sample every year.
- Laboratory Testing: The tape goes to an accredited laboratory to check its breaking strength.
- Lifespan Tracking: Lab results show the exact condition and remaining service life of the net (up to 9 to 10 years)
Frictape benefits over traditional testing
- No Drop Test Required: Sample breaking tests remove the need for risky or damaging physical drop tests on the installed net.
- High Strength Capacity: The materials are originally tested in labs to withstand forces over 10,000 kg.
- Accurate Planning: Regular lab data helps facility managers budget and plan replacements safely
- No need for test inspector travel costs.
- A lot of vessels has not an available crane reaching helideck for to perform drop-testing
